Michal Ernée

Michal Ernée received his MA (1992) and Ph.D. (2006) in prehistoric and medieval archaeology at the Charles University in Prague (Prof. M. Buchvaldek). After working as archeologist and leading many excavations in the County Museum in Český Krumlov (1992-1997) and by Archaeological Trust Archaia (1997–2002), is Michal since 2002 working as senior researcher and Research Professor in the Institute of Archaeology of the Czech Academy of Sciences in Prague. For the long time his research is focused on excavation and deep interdisciplinary analyses of inhumation cemeteries and study of the European Early Bronze Age in general.

Michal was PI of more large international interdisciplinary projects of Czech Grant Agency (2007–2009, 2016–2019) and Czech Academy of Sciences (2020–2025) analysing EBA inhumation cemeteries (Prague-Miškovice, Mikulovice, Kolín) extraordinary bronze hoards (Tursko) and settlements (Hosty), by integrating many different scientific disciplines. Since 2016 he was and is involved in more archaeogenetical projects in cooperation with scientists from Max-Planck-Institute in Jena/Leipzig and any other scientific institutions, integrating archaeological, anthropological and archeogenetical approaches by analysing the prehistoric burial practices.

His research accelerated during the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation Fellowship at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg (2010–2012, Prof. F. Bertemes). Michal had and has lectures and doctor students on universities in Prague, Brno and Halle (Saale). For 18 years he was an Editor in Chief of the scientific journal Památky archeologické.
